F.A.Q.

Is it really this easy?
Yes! Well, no. Moving to another country is a big deal. It seems like a big leap headfirst into the unknown. But that's why we're here. We realized that the majority of life's miseries melted away when you add in warm, beautiful weather and then remove the high price tag. So we are making efforts to do most of the legwork for you. So believe us when we say, it's *not* a dream, or a fairy tale. You could actually retire a bit earlier. It's completely achievable and even feasible (do you find this believable?).
How much does it cost to live in Belize?
The short answer: overall, things are roughly half the cost as they are in a large Canadian city. The real answer: it completely depends on how you live. As with any country, prices fluctuate based on supply and demand. So local rum and 'exotic' local fruit is going to cost a fraction of what it does in say, New York. But transportation and communication is not as developed, so you might end up paying more to get around if you live outside the city or drive a gas guzzling SUV. But the painfully expensive things like property and (excellent!) dental care are a fraction of the cost in Belize.
What language is spoken in Belize?
English. English is the official language and is used in schools. The most common second language is Spanish and much like French in Canada, bilingualism is quite common. But you will never need a Spanish-English dictionary (unless you run into a Spanish speaking tourist).
Where exactly is Belize?
Belize is on the northeastern coast of Central America. To the north is Mexico and to the south and west you'll find Guatemala. To the east is the Caribbean Sea. Its mainland is about 290 km (180 mi) long and 110 km (68 mi) wide.
